The Amazing Cross

It is arguably the most recognizable symbol in the world, and yet so many do not understand the profound meaning and essential message it carries.  The cross has been used to wage war, bring good fortune, decorate a home, tattoo a forearm and decorate living rooms.  But what is the true message of this oft displayed formation?

I.  The Cross Displays the Sinfulness of Sin

Colossians 2:13-14 “And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross.”

II.  The Cross Conveys the Depth of God’s Love

Romans 8:32  “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?”

III.  The Cross Proves God’s Willingness to Save Sinners

Romans 5:8  “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”

IV.  The Cross Reveals the Righteousness of God

Matthew 27:46  “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”

V.  The Cross Guarantees Victory Over Sin in the Believer’s Life

Galatians 2:20  “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

1 John 1:9  “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

VI.  The Cross Remains the Only Occasion of Boasting for the Believer

Galatians 6:14  “But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.”

Of course it is the Person Who died on the cross that paid our sin debt and through His flawless sacrifice and glorious resurrection any who call upon Him in faith will be saved!
